THE CLUB
The club was formed in 1976 with the aim of futhering the model railway hobby within the Sedgemoor area of North Somerset. This is still the case today, some 25 years later. From it's early beginnings in several rooms above a shop in Burnham Town Centre, with a layout that went through the walls and over the stairs, the club has steadily grown in size. The club now has it's own permanent club rooms and organises it's own exhibition, SEDGEMOOR RAIL, each year, normally held over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Apart from the club layout, Several club members also have their own layouts, and all members are welcome to assist with the development and operation of these. Although the main interest in the club is predominantly GWR steam, there is also a MODERN IMAGE layout available.
LAYOUTS:
The club has a number of varied layouts available for display at exhibitions. The club would welcome enquiries or invites from any Exhibition Manager looking for layouts for their show.
For all the layouts shown, estimated expenses are likely to be minimal, in most cases around £50 to £75, depending on distance travelled. The club has it's own transport available, therefore negating the need to hire a van, together with the use of a caravan when an overnight stay is required. It may also be possible to exhibit two layouts for the price of one as both would travel together. The club is also willing to discuss "quid pro quo" arrangements, where you may wish to display a layout at the Burnham show in return for one of the following layouts appearing at your show. In such circumstances no expenses would be paid to either party.
MEETINGS:
The club meets every Tuesday and Thursday evening at the Community Centre, Berrow Road, Burnham on Sea, Somerset between 7.00 and 10.00pm. New or prospective members are welcome to just turn up on any club night. For security reasons the front door to the premises is kept locked, even when the building is occupied, so you will need to ring the bell 3 times to gain entry. Directions to the clubrooms and further information can be obtained from the Secretary or Webmaster.
MEMBERSHIP:
The club currently boasts some 20 active members. Membership is available to all who take an ACTIVE interest in railway modelling, subject to acceptance, whatever their skill level or particular interest. Novices are equally as welcome as the most experienced expert. Current membership rates are £12.50 per quarter. It should be borne in mind, that although the club only formally meets on the nights shown above, as the club has it's own dedicated premises, members are welcome to work on club projects during their spare time as access to the clubroom is available seven days a week.
